MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins have signed unrestricted free agent cornerback Zack Bowman to a one-year contract, it was announced today.
“I am happy to announce the addition of cornerback Zack Bowman to the Miami Dolphins and I would like to welcome him to South Florida,” said Dolphins General Manager Dennis Hickey. “Zack is a smart and experienced player who will help bolster our defensive unit along with special teams.”
The 6-1, 196-pound Bowman joins Miami after spending the 2014 season with the New York Giants following a six-year stint (2008-13) with the Chicago Bears. He was originally a fifth-round selection (142nd overall) of Chicago in the 2008 NFL draft. In his career, Bowman has played in 89 regular season games with 28 starts and has also appeared in two playoff contests. In the regular season, he has totaled 166 tackles (147 solo), 12 interceptions returned for 159 yards, including one for a touchdown, 27 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries. In his second NFL season in 2009, he notched a career-high six interceptions, which was tied for fifth-most in the NFL. In 2014, he saw action in all 16 games with five starts and tallied 19 tackles (15 solo), two interceptions returned for 25 yards, six passes defensed and one fumble recovery. He also added four special teams tackles.
Bowman played collegiately at Nebraska (2005-07) after spending two seasons at New Mexico Military Institute. At Nebraska, he played in 22 games with nine starts and finished with 56 tackles (46 solo), three interceptions and 17 pass breakups. He also earned junior college All-America honors at New Mexico Military Institute where he intercepted 10 passes, including six as a sophomore when he scored two touchdowns. Born November 18, 1984, Bowman attended Bartlett High School in Anchorage, Alaska.
