Dolphins Sign Shelley Smith

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins have signed unrestricted free agent offensive lineman Shelley Smith to a multi-year contract, the team announced today.

“I would like to welcome Shelley Smith as the newest addition to the Miami Dolphins,” said Dolphins General Manager Dennis Hickey. “Shelley is a 26-year old ascending player who will be a good fit for our offensive line.”

Shelley-SmithThe 6-4, 312-pound Smith joins Miami after spending the past two seasons with the St. Louis Rams (2012-13).

Smith has played in 25 regular season games with eight starts over the past two seasons with St. Louis. During the 2013 season, Smith became a regular contributor along the offensive line, appearing in 14 games for the Rams at right guard. In 2012, he saw action in 11 games with six coming in a starting role at both left and right guard.

He began his career with the Houston Texans in 2010 where he was inactive for first three games and the final five games of the season. In 2011, Smith spent season on injured reserve following an injury suffered during training camp. Smith was selected by Houston in the sixth round (187th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

A three-time letterwinner and team captain as a senior, Smith played in 36 games with 31 starts at guard for Colorado State during his collegiate career, where he was a two-time All-Mountain West performer.
