Dolphins Sign LaMichael James

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins have signed running back LaMichael James to a one-year contract, the team announced today.

The 5-9, 195-pound, James is entering his fourth NFL season and second with the Dolphins after initially signing to the practice squad on Oct. 1, 2014 and then being elevated to the active roster on Nov. 10. Prior to that, he spent portions of three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers (2012-14) before being waived on Sept. 8, 2014. He was originally a second-round selection (61st overall) of San Francisco in the 2012 NFL draft. In his career, James has played in 17 games and rushed 44 times for 193 yards (4.4 avg.), and has recorded five career receptions for 45 yards. In 2014, James appeared in three games, one for San Francisco and two for Miami, and tallied five carries for nine yards.

James played collegiately at Oregon where he saw action in 37 games with 34 starts. He finished his career ranked first in school history with 5,082 career rushing yards. He became the first two-time consensus All-America selection in school history his sophomore and junior seasons. He also won the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back as a sophomore. Born October 22, 1992, James attended Liberty-Eylau High School in Texarkana, Texas.
