The Miami Dolphins hosted its inaugural South Florida High School Football Media Day at Sun Life Stadium.
The event featured nearly 70 football teams from Miami-Dade and Broward County high schools, and allowed media access to the squads in one centralized location. Five players and a coach from each school participated in the event, which encompassed photo, video and interview stations.
The Dolphins are the first NFL team to host and execute a high school football media day.
“I think the media day was very successful and is the start of something special,” Miami Dolphins Youth Programs Director Twan Russell said. “It’s beneficial for both the media and the programs; the kids get a first-class experience being in a professional setting, while the media can get all their coverage in one location.”
Every team had the opportunity to interact with the media inside the Dolphins locker room, in addition to getting interviewed in the team’s media room.
The high school students had an excellent experience participating in the inaugural event.
“It’s a great experience coming from high school and being in a NFL facility. I have big dreams of being in the NFL, so to come here and see the inside of Sun Life Stadium was great,” Booker T Washington running back Krondis Larry said. “It motivates you for where you want to be at in life.”
The media day helped schools of all sizes get exposure as they prepare for the upcoming season.
“It’s a great opportunity for the kids for the Dolphins to have this media day. This is the first time something like this has happened,” Miami Central Coach Roland Smith said. “It was really exciting for the kids.”
The Dolphins plan to make the high school football media day an annual event.
“I think this event has a bright future. I am really enthusiastic about how this day went, especially for it being the first time,” Dolphins Youth Programs Coordinator Troy Drayton said.
