Heading into the bye week Coach Andy Reid stated he was going to take a hard look at everything and “tear things apart.” The first hammer to fall has been the Eagles have fired Juan Castillo according to a report by Reuben Frank of CSN Philadelphia.
This should not come as a shock to anyone. Juan Castillo, previously who was the team’s offensive line coach was Andy Reid’s hand-picked choice to replace Sean McDermott who replaced the late Jim Johnson on the defensive side of the ball. The Eagles have named secondary coach Todd Bowles as the teams new Defensive Coordinator.
Said Eagles Coach Andy Reid, “I want to make it clear that I have nothing but the ultimate respect for Juan Castillo as a coach and as a person. He’s one of the finest football coaches that I have ever worked with. He has served this organization extremely well for 18 years and letting him go was a difficult decision. I know he will continue to be a successful coach in this league and wish he and his family nothing but the best.”
Reid himself is on the coaching hot seat after being put on notice by Eagles owner Jeffery Lurie that a failure to qualify for the postseason will most likely result in his own dismissal.
“We’re six games into the season and average isn’t good enough. I know the potential of our team and insist on maximizing it.”
The Eagles making any changes at quarterback during the bye week still remains to be seen.
