Plaxico Burress said on the radio today that he would like to join Michael Vick with the Philadelphia Eagles, saying, “nothing else would make me happier.”
Burress indicated that there was a “lot of interest” from the Eagles last year, but they weren’t able to come to terms on a deal, and he joined the New York Jets for a one-year, $3 million contract. Burress is scheduled to become a free agent on March 13.
Burress had 45 catches for 612 yards and 8 touchdowns for the Jets last season, showing the ability in the red zone that made him such a threat before his legal problems took him off the field for two years. Seven of his eight TDs were red zone touchdowns.
The Eagles are already strong at receiver with DeSean McCoy, Jeremy Maclin, and Jason Avant, although the 6-foot-5 Burress would add a big red zone target to the relatively small, fast receiving corps currently in Philly.
And the presence of Vick, who has become close to Burress as they both dealt with prison time and returned to successful careers on the field, would also be a plus for Burress.
“Being able to play together, coming from what we’ve come from, I just think would be a special deal,” Burress said. “I really believe he can bring a championship to Philadelphia and I would love to be a part of it.”
