The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today the acquisition of T Gabe Carimi from the Chicago Bears in exchange for a sixth-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Carimi (6-7, 316) was selected by the Bears in the first round (29th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft and has started 16-of-18 games he has played with Chicago.
Carimi was a four-year starter at the University of Wisconsin, where he was coached by current Buccaneers offensive line coach Bob Bostad. While with the Badgers, Carimi started all 49 games he played in, winning the Outland Trophy (Best Interior Lineman) as a senior, as well as being named Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year. A two-time All-American selection, Carimi was also a two-time All-Big Ten selection.
The team also announced they have waived T Nick Speller.
