Alex Smith Agrees to Terms with 49ers

After a brief flirtation with the prettiest girl at the dance, the 49ers have returned to “dance with who brung them.”  The 49ers and Alex Smith have agreed on terms for a three-year contract worth about $8 million per season.

The 49ers put contract talks on hold while they pursued Peyton Manning for the last week or so, and Smith made a visit to Miami to gauge their interest in signing him, but it appears that Smith will be back to lead the 49ers in an attempt to improve on last season’s appearance in the NFC Championship Game.

With the addition of wide receivers Randy Moss and Mario Manningham, along with Michael Crabtree and tight end Vernon Davis, the 49ers looked poised to open up the offense next season.

Smith and coach Jim Harbaugh developed a close relationship last season, and Harbaugh indicated that nothing has changed.  “It’s been a good — strong relationship, as always,” Harbaugh said.  “Nothing’s changed.”
