Dallas, TX-After the release of Dez Bryant, a lot of fans expected the Cowboys to get another wide receiver to fill in the gap at the wide receiver position, but the Cowboys went in another direction with drafting linebacker Leighton Vander Esch. Following a lot of disappointing news, Jason Witten announced today that he was debating about coming back this season and would have to sleep on it during the weekend.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen was the first one to report on this surprising news.“Witten has some things to think about and discuss with his family from a professional perspective,” said team owner Jerry Jones, who added that he spoke with Witten several times this week. “He also told me that those things are going to require a few more days of consideration, at least through the weekend. He’s not made any decisions that are definite at this time, we have no announcement today, as it pertains to Jason’s future other than to say that he’s a wonderful, valued member of our organization and our family. With respect to Jason and his wishes, this is all we’re going to say regarding that subject for the remainder of the weekend.”
The news was surprising to the world, but Witten has stated last season that he was thinking about retiring and spending more time with his family. However, the plot twist in this situation is Witten wants to be in the broadcasting booth with FoxSports this year. No decision has been made yet about is future, but it will be interesting to see how he does in the both. If he does retire, he career stats have been more than impressive. He has appeared in 239 games with 229 starts, totaling 1,152 catches for 12,448 yards, and 68 touchdowns. He is ranked fourth in All-time receptions. With a great career in Dallas, let’s see if he can be very crafty in the booth, as he was on the field.
