On the thirtieth episode of the second season of The Sports-Casters, hosts Steve Bennett and Don Russ welcome Luke Winn (Sports Illustrated, SI.COM), Tas Melas (The Basketball Jones), and Ed Sherman (ShermanReport.COM) to the podcast. Kicking off the show with 3Things, Steve and Don talk about the brilliance of the Olympics, the excellence of Phelps and Bolt, and the dominance of USA Basketball. Don talks about the Lakers trading for Dwight Howard, and Steve chats the Honey Badger being kicked off the LSU football team. Also, Steve and Don talk about Rory McIlroy’s impressive victory at the PGA Championship, and the NHLPA taking their first shot at labor peace. Also on the show, Steve and Don update the book club, debate similarly ranked players during Five on Fantasy, and close out the show with Pick4.

Luke Winn is making his fifth appearance on the podcast to discuss his time in London covering the Summer Olympics. Winn talks about his role at the Games for SI, his great view of Usain Bolt’s win in the 200M and his hunt for international stories. Also, Winn talks about how he stumbled upon an Indian street artist, jokes about the supposed Olympic sex romp, and explains why he didn’t get to see many of the top swimming events.

Tas Melas is making his third appearance on the podcast to discuss the Lakers trading for Orlando Magic superstar Dwight Howard. Melas also talks about USA Basketball’s domination at the Olympics, shares his changed perspective on LeBron James now that he won a championship, and says the Knicks should have resigned Jeremy Lin .

Ed Sherman is making his second appearance on the podcast to discuss NBC’s coverage of the Olympic Games. Sherman discusses the mistakes that NBC made by limiting live coverage and says that it has to be figured out in time for the next Olympics. Sherman also puts the career of Bob Ryan into perspective and tells a wonderful story about a night out he had with Bob in New York City.
