Washington Redskins: Robert Griffin III Cleared By Doctors For Practice

The beauty of social networks like Twitter was once again displayed Monday when Washington Redskins’ QB broke news with an update on the most famous right knee in all of sports.

2012′s NFL offensive rookie of the year had total reconstructive knee surgery in January after further aggravating the injury in Washington’s playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks. The injury, of course, was first sustained in week 14 against the Baltimore Ravens.

It was widely speculated that the quarterback could have been placed on the Physically Unable to Preform (PUP) list. However, given the progress he has made, that would have been more of a setback than precautionary tool. When placed on that list you can do absolutely nothing with your teammates and can only continue rehab on the side of practice. That would have benefited no one, including Robert Griffin III.

Now, as Griffin said in his tweet, he can practice with limitations. The coaches will “ease” him in to doing major on-field work. Griffin now has an opportunity to work on his niche. There’s no question, Griffin has to protect himself from himself better than he did last season. As we wrote here , Griffin has to make the sideline his friend or get down quickly instead of taking shots from defenders in the open field.

There was a 7 month plan for Griffin to return to the field. With training camp practices starting Thursday, this means Griffin is a little over two weeks ahead of schedule. NFL defenders — beware.
