Robert Griffin III Thinks Starting Day One Of Training Camp Is Realistic

Washington Redskins’ QB Robert Griffin III is coming off a week in which a few of his personal goals were met. “This was a big week with four-straight days on the field,” Griffin said after Thursday’s final OTA session. “Throwing everyday — throwing on the run.”

When asked if starting day one of training camp was a realistic option, Griffin said “without a doubt.” He went on to say, “if I’m ready then I go, if I’m not then I sit. It’s a mindset and how I’ve progressed. I feel a lot better. Training camp is two months away and I feel good about that.”

After total reconstructive knee surgery this past January, Griffin would be nearly seven months in his rehab stage. If Griffin is able to go for the start of training camp and not suffer any setbacks — starting week one of the regular season won’t be so far-fetched.

“We’ll have to wait and see,” coach Mike Shanahan said on the possibility of Griffin starting day one of camp. “I like that goal.” With all the backlash Shanahan received after not pulling Griffin out of the team’s playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks, he was cautious with his words. “I do the same thing I’ve been doing in all my years of coaching — I talk to the doctors.”

Robert Griffin III does believe training camp is the “right target.” But Griffin says he’ll definitely swallow his pride if he’s not ready. So far, he has not suffered any setbacks. Griffin says he doesn’t feel any soreness in his knee and doesn’t have a limp when running. He also feels confident about his ability to throw on the run. The only thing Griffin has yet to successfully do is plant and cut like he would in a game. But so far, so good. Robert Griffin III is well on his way to reaching all his off-season goals.
