The St. Louis Rams traded back and still thought they could nab their receiver of the future in Patterson. Although Minnesota spoiled those plans, St. Louis was still able to get a difference-maker by drafting Georgia linebacker Alec Ogletree.
After the pick, it seems as if St. Louis will undoubtly have their sights set on a receiver in the later rounds.
Ogletree is another player that is a needs-based pick and will improve a defense that has been trending in the right direction under the tutelage of head coach Jeff Fisher. Ogletree is another athletic linebacker that can start opposite James Laurinaitus.
Ogletree’s off-field issues had everything to do with him slipping down draft boards. IN fact, he was once considered the most athletic player on a Georgia team that included now Pittsburgh Steeler Jarvis Jones. Ogletree’s DUI arrest a week before the combine scared off potential suitors in the process, but not the Rams.
After taking troubled cornerback Janoris Jenkins a season ago, Jeff Fisher will try his hand again at fixing a troubled NFL prospect. Ogletree could become a solid NFL starter for years to come and the Rams will benefit from taking the chance on him.
