Clay Matthews’ Packers offer exceeds $13M per season

The Packers are closing in on a deal that will make Aaron Rodgers the highest-paid player in the NFL. The quarterback would like to have the new contract in place by April 15, which is when the team reports for offseason conditioning, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. The team also has to work on a deals for outside linebacker Clay Matthews. Rapoport is reporting that the Packers' latest offer to Matthews already eclipses Dallas Cowboys pass rusher DeMarcus Ware's six-year, $78 million contract worth $13 million annually. If that is true, Matthews could become the highest-paid pass-rushing linebacker in the NFL.
