Ask any one of the hundreds of players he’s tackled in his career, Arthur Brown has been called a classic ‘Run and Hit’ weak side linebacker. Although many people now refer to him as Bryce Brown’s older brother, that may soon change. As one of the nation’s top recruits, he could have gone to any team he wanted; instead he bonded with Coach Randy Shannon, former football coach with the University of Miami. Arthur he was intrigued by the ‘U’s’ linebacker tradition, connection to the NFL, and the chance to be in beautiful Miami, Florida.
“I was going there for the wrong reasons. I wanted to get out of the house and away from the cold, but I couldn’t get on the field like I wanted and there was a coaching change. I talked to my family, they wanted me to come back closer to home and playing for Coach Snyder was such an honor. He taught me so much about life, even more than football.”
After 17 total tackles in two years at Miami, Brown returned home to play for Kansas State. Once there he recorded 101 tackles, including 9.5 for loss at two sacks and was the first Wildcat to reach the 100 tackle mark since Brandon Archer in 2006.
Arthur is proud of his relationship with his brother, “It’s still surprising, shocking even sometimes to think of him being where he is and what he’s already accomplished.” When asked about his thoughts of possibly being reunited with his brother in Philadelphia Brown stated, “No we haven’t really given that too much thought he has to concentrate on what he’s doing and I have to focus on what I’m doing. If it happened that’d be great though.”
Arthur Brown is the kind of prospect that can potentially start an argument in a draft room. At 241 lbs. he is the heaviest he’s ever been, but some worry that he might not deal well with big bodies in the interior or not be special as a pass-rusher. Others, point to his toughness, production, and football IQ and will ‘climb the table’ for him, and why not with the success of his little brother indicating the probability that there’s great football to be found in Arthur Brown.
