The Miami Dolphins are not just active on the football field, but they also get involved with youth programs in their community. On February 7th they went to Treasure Island Elementary School in North Bay Village, FL, to volunteer at the Gatorade Junior Training Camp (JTC).
Ranging from Pre-K to fifth grade, 500 students turned out for the event, who participated in various football drills and cheerleading routines. The event was well-organized and gave many students the chance to experience a sport that they normally would not play. The Dolphin’s Youth Program mission statement specifies that they seek to emphasize education, physical fitness, and positive choices for kids within a healthy environment. The Dolphin’s successfully achieved their goal by providing the students that came the opportunity to see that exercise can be fun and rewarding.
The Treasure Island Principal, Gloria Barnes, stated that “it was a rewarding experience because the kids [saw] how physical and mental abilites go hand in hand”. The Dolphins hold plenty of these events and have a list of dates for when their training camps will take place. For more information on their JTC schedule and when they will be volunteering within the youth related community, you can visit their youth academy website that is linked to the official Miami Dolphin’s webpage.
