Jets’ Kerley emerging in passing game

Jets wide out Jeremy Kerley, a 5-9, 188 pound slot receiver, is quickly becoming a target Mark Sanchez can count on.  Last week versus the Rams, Kerley had three catches for 43 yards, but two of them came on big third down plays.

NYJ Jeremy Kerley 350x350With number one receiver Santonio Holmes out for the year, Kerley is getting more of a chance to see the field. Last week he was playing hurt with heel and thigh problems, but still was very productive. Kerley is also the Jets top return man for punts.

The second year pro is showing that he has great hands and the coaching staff is showing a lot of confidence in him, targeting him to pick up key first downs on third downs.

The Jets are hoping he can go this Thursday versus the Patriots.  He did not practice yesterday with the on going leg problems, but the team is hopeful he will be ready by kick off. In the first game against the Patriots, he had seven catches for 120 yards.  They will need that production tomorrow if they want to beat the division leaders.

With second round pick Stephen Hill struggling a little bit catching the football, Kerley has been a nice surprise helping this offense which has struggled quite a bit at times this season. On the year he has 35 catches for 535 yards and two touchdowns.  The most glaring stat is his average of 15.3 yards per catch, 16th in the NFL.  That’s how you help your quarterback.

On Wednesday, LaRon Landry, coach Rex Ryan, and many other players were at the Harlem Polo Grounds Project to feed turkeys to about 500 families.
