Lions Nate Burleson Faces Uncertainty

Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson, who had season-ending surgery on his broken right leg nearly two weeks ago, walked through the locker room on crutches and discussed his injury and uncertain future, Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free-Press.

The 10-year veteran understands the reality of playing in the NFL.

Burleson, who will be 32 next season, had five screws and a plate inserted in his leg after he suffered a tibial plateau fracture under his knee. He will begin putting weight on his leg next month and begin his lower-body rehabilitation then.

Ryan Broyles an Titus Young are emerging as new stars on the Lions team and Burleson says he talks bluntly with them. “With them balling out completely it could leave me the odd man out. That’s just the reality of the game. … Once I heal up, I’m going to come back at a high level. If my spot is secure on this team, then I’m going to continue to do what I do and lead and be the person that I was before I got banged up. If not, then hopefully I’ll put the young guys in a position that they can easily take my place.”
