Tillman and Bears Defense Tame Lions

The Bears perform big under the lights against their rival the Detroit Lions and come out with a 13 to 7 victory. I guess it’s something about playing on Monday Night Football that the Bears love, because under Lovie Smith the Bears are 7 – 2.  Also, in the last nine games the Bears are 8-1 against the Lions.

Monday night was nothing short of dominant.  The offense got off to a great start with running the ball as well as throwing it, but the primary concern was Jay Cutler’s health after going down with a rib injury in the first half as Lions DT Ndamukong Suh sacked Cutler and landed on him hard.  Cutler did return but wasn’t 100 percent, although he did finish the game 16 of 31 for 150 yards and a TD.  The running game picked up the slack, as Forte and Bush combined for 132 yards on the ground.

More importantly, the defense continued to show why they are the top defense in the league. After forcing 4 turnovers and sacking Matthew Stafford 3 times.  The highlight of the night for the Bears defense was Charles Tillman, who completely shut down Calvin Johnson aka Megatron, who was held to 3 catches for 34 yards.  Tillman came up tonight not only with shutting down one of the best receivers in the game, but also forcing two of the three fumbles the Bears recovered.

The Bears moved to 5-1 and the Lions drop to 2-4.  If the Bears keep this performance down the stretch, this team will be a strong Super Bowl contender in the NFC, but more immediately, the Bears prepare to play Cam Newton and the struggling Carolina Panthers next week.
