Burress Reunion Giants or Steelers?

It now appears likely that Plaxico Burress will be returning to one of his two former teams – the New York Giants or Pittsburgh Steelers.  Burress has meetings with both organizations planned, meeting with Giants’ head coach Tom Coughlin on Friday night, followed by a trip to Pittsburgh to meet with Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin, ESPN is reporting.

Other teams have expressed interest, including the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets, but his two former clubs seem to be the frontrunners.

Burress had some rocky periods in New York and is said to have had a strained relationship with Coughlin, so the meeting Friday may be an effort for both sides to mend fences and decide if they can work together.  In spite of the rough patches, Burress’s big game performances, particularly in the Giants 2007 Super Bowl run, are warmly remembered in New York.

“I know this team would love to see him back,” Giants’ defensive end Justin Tuck said, adding that he had spoken with Burress. “I don’t see there being any other place for him to be (rather) than here in New York.  But he has to do what’s best for him and his family, and that’s what I’d advise him to do.”

Tuck also commented on the relationship between Burress and the head coach, “I can’t speak for Plax or Tom, but it’s been well-documented that they have bumped heads in the past, so hopefully a little time apart can rekindle that love that they shared for each other.”

We’ll have to watch and see where Burress lands, but for some recent candid conversations with the talented receiver, see our exclusive interviews here and here.
