You already know a great deal about Panthers’ new quarterback Cam Newton. As the first overall draft pick in the 2011 NFL Draft he is becoming a household name. But you might not know his favorite food, what he likes to do outside of football or that Newton is looking to the veteran players for guidance as he starts his professional career.
ProPlayerInsiders caught up with Newton at the Rookie Premiere in Los Angeles.
Like the rest of rookies, Newton is transitioning from being a college player to being a professional player in the NFL. There are many questions and unknowns when going through the process. Newton said the other players have been very open about answering questions and helping him prepare for life on and off the football field. Newton said the type of guidance he has received “is the kind of advice a father would share with his son.”
Newton enjoyed “chilling with all the players” and looks forward to spending more time with them and playing football. He has said that since being drafted, “everyday I wake up I continue to pinch myself.”
One of the things Newton enjoys off the field is a good meal. His favorite food is pork chops prepared by his mother Jackie with pasta as the runner-up.
He enters the NFL after having one of the most decorated college football seasons ever. In one season he received the Manning Award, Heisman Trophy, won a national championship and was selected number one overall in the NFL draft.
