Wide receiver Terrell Owens is still out looking for a job, and with the 49ers releasing Braylon Edwards this week – TO has made a bid to return to where he started, and received support from one current member of the 49ers.
TO tweeted on Wednesday, “@DonteWhitner Let em kno if they need me, I’m ready homie!! I’m ready 2 take em deep!!”
To which Donte Whitner, current 49ers safety and former teammate of Owens in Buffalo, replied, “@terrellowens I know u are! And I’m ready to Vouch for…and let everyone kno how GREAT of a teammate u were in buffalo!”
A SF reunion for Owens is unlikely, but they are one team that could use help at wide receiver. With Edwards gone, and Ted Ginn and Kyle Williams nursing injuries, along with Josh Morgan on IR since October, the 49ers are very thin at receiver. They are a serious playoff contender who is weak in the passing game, and adding a deep threat who could force teams to not put 8 or 9 men in the box to key on Frank Gore would help their offense all around.
But Owens has burned a lot of bridges in the SF front office, and it is likely too late in the season for that type of move.
