Week 2 Eagles (2-0) vs Ravens (1-1) Recap

Final Score: Eagles 24 – Ravens 23

Writer’s Pregame Prediction: Eagles 17 – Ravens 24

Play of the Game: Michael Vick put the Eagles up 24-23 on a 1 yard touchdown run with 1:55 remaining in the game.

Stat of the Game: The Eagles offense had 161 more total yards than the Ravens on Sunday, outgaining them 486-325.

Eagles Player of the Game Offense: Michael Vick. Vick threw for 371 yards and also ran for the game winning score, while leading the Eagles to their 2nd 4th quarter comeback in as many weeks, doubling their comeback total from a season ago.

Eagles Player of the Game Defense: Demeco Ryans. After letting Ray Rice bust loose for big gains in the 1st half the Eagles defense shut him down in the 2nd. Ryans finished the game with 7 tackles and a sack, as he lead a surging Eagles D to a dominant 2nd half performance, shutting down Rice and frustrating Joe Flacco and the Ravens offense.

Opponent Player of the Game Offense: Ray Rice. Rice ran for 99 yards on 16 carries as the Eagles had a hard time containing him in the 1st half.

Opponent Player of the Game Defense: Haloti Ngata. While Ngata only finished the game with 3 tackles, he was a dominant force up front the entire game. His ability to draw double teams, penalties, and create chaos in the backfield enabled the Ravens linebackers’ room to make plays.

Best Throw: Backed up on his on 7 yard line late in the 3rd quarter, Vick launched a beautiful 50 yard throw down the right sideline over the corner, which then dropped into the arms of sprinting DeSean Jackson before the safety could converge.

Best Catch: Vick’s 50 yard touch throw to Jackson in the 3rd never would have happened had Jackson not been able to absorb the vicious blow inflicted by safety Ed Reed, and hang onto the football.

Best Run: LeSean McCoy took a handoff right-side in the 2nd quarter, eluded a tackler at the line of scrimmage, burst up the sideline past another defender for 20 yards and eventually was corralled by Ravens defenders, but not before he turned a 1 yard loss into a 20 yard gain.

Best Hit: With 2 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter Michael Vick found tight end Brent Celek over the middle who was subsequently laid out by safety Bernard Pollard. Celek was shaken on the play but eventually got up and dusted himself off.

Best Kick: Rookie kicker Justin Tucker nailed a 56 yard field goal to end the 1st half, putting the Ravens up 17-7, and tying a franchise mark for longest field goal in a game.

Recap: Despite Committing 9 turnovers through the 1st two games the Eagles have won both games. A comeback win against a very talented Baltimore Ravens team should be a confidence builder going forward, and head coach Andy Reid has to be happy with his team’s ability to fight through adversity so far this season.

Next Up: The Eagles (2-0) travel to Arizona to play the Cardinals (2-0) next Sunday September 23rd, game time is set for 4:00.
