Reggie Smith Heads Back to Hometown for Charity Weekend

Watch out Edmond, Oklahoma… Reggie Smith is coming back to his home town and this time he is a Carolina Panther. Next weekend, this former Oklahoma Sooner will host the 3rd Annual Reggie Smith Foundation Charity Weekend. Like every year, Reggie will pose as “Coach Smith” with his NFL friends in order to teach football skills to aspiring players in the area

This Annual Rookie 31 camp  will help prepare young, top athletes with the techniques and expertise of the Pros. This rare opportunity to interact one on one with Smith and his colleagues will be priceless for up and coming players. The day long event will be held at Edmond Santa Fe High School, right in the heart of  Edmond, OK. The campers will receive eight hours of expert instruction, fun filled drills, prizes, a camp T-shirt, team photo, but most importantly inspiration from Reggie Smith himself.

Prior to Saturday’s excitement packed Rookie 31 camp, the Charity Weekend will kick off with a Friday Cocktail hour where Reggie and his guests will gather to thank all the foundation sponsors. After camp on day two, Reggie will also host the Annual Bowling for a Cause event where he and friends will bowl with the event attendees.

Smith  formed this foundation in his second year as a pro, which is very admirable. Not too many players take on this type of challenge their second year in the league, but Smith saw a need in the community in which he grew up and wanted to make a difference.  He makes sure the foundation’s proceeds benefit the Britton Scholars Program (a volunteer-based program that provides help and mentorship opportunities to elementary and middle school students in the North Highland area of Oklahoma City).  Funds also go to Reggie’s alma mater (in the Edmond public school district) to purchase necessary items needed by their football program.

This Panther is making a huge impact even beyond the heart of his hometown. Charlotte, North Carolina has gained more then a stellar safety, they have gained a giving philanthropist.
