Bengals’ Sanu: Number Twelve for Twice the Impact

For Mohamed Sanu, the NFL Draft was a huge turning point for his football career. Playing at Rutgers, as a three-year starter, he elevated his game throughout the past couple of seasons to become a dominant pass catcher. Even though the quarterback position at Rutgers lacked consistency, Sanu was still able to make those quarterbacks look good by catching almost everything thrown in his direction.

His big 6’2”, 210-pound frame made it difficult for defenders to bring him down single-handedly without extra help on the defensive side. During his college career at Rutgers, Sanu hauled in 210 catches, setting the school all-time record, racking up 2,263 yards in the process.

Mohamed Sanu was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in this year’s NFL Draft. All of the rookies recently completed their first rookie mini-camp including Sanu. Pro Player Insiders caught up with Sanu at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere this past week and talked to him about mini camp and transitioning to the pros.

“It went pretty well, I got adjusted to the system and everything and the way they ran things at Cincinnati, and I’m just excited to be there,” Sanu said.

Adjusting to the NFL can be a major challenge for a standout player coming from a top-notch school, but being around the right supporting cast can help rookies out when arriving to an up and coming team that is on the rise for success.

The Cincinnati Bengals have made a name for themselves with the impeccable QB-WR duo between Andy Dalton and A.J. Green. Last year those two were lighting up the league with their chemistry on the field.

Sanu looks forward to fitting in with his team and he said, “I’m just going to find my role and know my role and understand it and just try to do my job and do what I can for the team.”

As for his selection of number 12 on his jersey Sanu said, “It was my best friend’s number in high school and it is twice the number six I had in college, so I will make sure I’ll be twice as good as I was in college.”
