Stevie Johnson’s Studio Session with The Game

Stevie Johnson even admitted it himself when he quoted one of hip hop’s most coveted artist’s, Drake, that “sports and music are so synonymous, because we want to be them, and they want to be us.” He acknowledged the fact that a lot of professional athletes, along with rap artists who have broken into the mainstream, grew up with the same mentality; to make it out by any means necessary. Recently, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson teamed up with platinum-selling rapper The Game, in a studio session of two colorful personalities.

Stevie and The Game are two of the most scrutinized performers in their respective fields. Johnson, known more for his touchdown celebrations than his precise route running abilities, has received national media attention from shows like ESPN’s First Take with Skip Bayless.

The Game, former member of G-Unit, has a reputation for stirring up trouble which at times has overshadowed his ability to produce some of hip hop’s most influential lyrics. That’s what made the studio session between these two so intriguing, and why I wish more performers would reach out to athletes about working together on tracks. Now certainly rappers don’t want professional athletes making a mockery out of their craft, which is probably why it doesn’t happen that often. But the way it went down between The Game and Stevie Johnson is something that should be embraced, because Stevie obviously did his homework prior to their studio session.
