Thinking about the 2012 NFL Free Agent Market? Think Excitement

The news can’t get much better than having off season free agent quarterback, Peyton Manning returning after three neck surgeries looking to redeem himself, or Matt Flynn whose said to be an unsung superstar. This star filled group of players will be one of the most exciting free agencies we have seen in a while.

This is a big opportunity for some teams. Sure everyone is drooling over the likes of Peyton Manning, the potential hall of fame quarterback that has greatly contributed to the Colts franchise for over 10 years, and Drew Brees, the man that has done it all in New Orleans by bringing them to their first super bowl appearance and win in the 2009-10 season, whilebreaking the all-time passing yards record in a singleseason. Still some players haven’t been getting the attention they deserve.

Reggie Wayne is a great receiver of his time and has been Manning’s counterpart for the past decade with great hands and outstanding leadership. Wayne is a true threat to any defense. How about one of the biggestplaymaking receivers in the NFL, DeSean Jackson with his lightning speed and dangerous athleticism. He is “the talk” of many teams, including the Oakland Raiders, who are looking to expand their receiving core with Denarius Moore and Darius Heyward-Bey. Another bright light in the market is former Browns Running back Peyton Hillis, although coming off one of the worst seasons possible I still think this underdog running back has the potential to be one of the best in the league.

How about 5’6” Ray Rice. He is untouchable, and for good reason probably the best running back in the NFL. Coming off a great run with the Ravens, as they managed a Conference Championship appearance, and who else but Rice leading the heart of the Ravens offence.

Who can forget another big story in the NFL off season, The Freak Randy Moss, who is one of the all-time best receivers in NFL history. Question here is does Randy still have the skill and physical fitness to play after being out of the game for a year?  Well, my answer is “yes”. This is a disciplined veteran.  He might not be as good as when he retired, but there’s no doubt in my mind that he will have his moments and a few big plays.

Another free agent that would look good on any team is Jermichael Finley. The bulky tight end can catch like a receiver and block like a tackle. It doesn’t get much better than this when scouting for tight ends.

Now let’s talk defense. How about the former cornerback for the Tennessee Titans, Cortland Finnegan? This guy is absolutely the most aggressive corner in the league. Although he might be difficult in the locker room he may be worth taking a chance on, because this guy could turn the direction of any defense around. Another Colt worth talking about here is defensive end Robert Mathis. He is a monster, and a very good fit for the Chicago Bears, his opposite being Julius Peppers. Although the Bears have been negotiating with him there is a likely chance we will see him in the Colts uniform in 2012.

The most under rated defensive player in the free agent market right now is cornerback Brandon Carr. He is a consistent playmaker and has the ability to get the job done and finish off a well-rounded defensive team. It has also been rumored that the Dallas Cowboys have been talking to Carr, and I can see him as a nice addition to the potentially playoff bound team. The last guy  on my list of star studded free agents is Michael Griffin. The power house safety will deliver a good hit and a great tackle on almost every play.

All in all, the 2012 offseason will be an exciting one with all of the big names in free agency and all of the Heisman bid names coming from the NFL draft. We will have to wait and see where these great names end up, possibly bringing with them a championship season. However, only time will tell how this great offseason will pan out. Sit back and enjoy because this one should turn out to be good.
