The Jacksonville Jaguars benched quarterback Blaine Gabbert with 7:03 left in the fourth quarter of the Jaguars loss to the Houston Texans. Gabbert was 13 for 29 for 136 yards and was sacked six times during the game.
Luke McCown took over for the Jaguars led the team to a late field goal, but his fourth-down pass with about a minute remaining fell incomplete.
“Blaine is our starting quarterback until I tell you otherwise,” Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio told reporters after the game.
This is the second time this season Gabbert was pulled during the fourth quarter.
Del Rio said McCown “showed me something that said as a veteran, he’s preparing like a guy who is one play away. When called up, he came in and gave us a spark.”
