Jahvid Best on IR, Out for Season

The Lions have placed RB Jahvid Best (concussion) on IR, ending his 2011 season. He still hasn’t been medically-cleared, and the team simply couldn’t afford to continue holding a roster spot for him.

“From the outset, we have been appropriately cautious and have followed all medical protocol with respect to Jahvid’s injury,” Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Friday. “We look forward to his continued improvement and eventual return to the field.”

Best was sidelined in the preseason as well as in college from concussion related injuries.

He finishes this season with 84 carries for 390 yards (4.6 average) and 2 TDs, plus 27 catches for 287 yards and another score. Few guys are more electric in the open field.

Meanwhile, Maurice Morris will step back in as Detroit’s lead back — at least until RB Kevin Smith (ankle) gets healthy.
