Eagles Try to Overcome Injuries Against Patriots
The Eagles could once again be missing some big names this Sunday as they face the Patriots, as quarterback Michael Vick and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin were both unable to practice again this week, and cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha was carted off the practice field on Thursday.
Eagles QB Michael Vick (ribs) missed practice again on Thursday. All signs point to QB Vince Young getting another start this Sunday.
After putting in a limited workout on Wednesday, Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin (shoulder, hamstring) was unable to practice on Thursday. It sounds like he suffered a setback with the hamstring. "The hamstring felt fine for a while there, but it's kind of, we'll see," Maclin said. Consider him extremely iffy for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
In addition, CB Nnamdi Asomugha was carted off the practice field on Thursday with a knee injury. Tests revealed no serious damage, but Asomugha is iffy for Sunday's game against the Patriots. His loss would be a major blow to a Philly secondary already without CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
Eagles WR DeSean Jackson (foot) returned to practice on Thursday. The injury was never believed to be serious, and he is expected to play against the Patriots this weekend.
The Eagles will need all the help they can get against the 7-3 New England Patriots, who rebounded from back to back losses against the Steelers and Giants to win two in a row against the Jets and Chiefs. The Patriots are once again in first place in the AFC East, and tied for the second best record in the AFC.
Philadelphia has climbed out of the basement in the NFC East, but still has a lot of work to do to make the playoffs. Although there's a lot of possibilities, they likely will have to run the table for the rest of the regular season to assure a playoff slot, and after the Patriots, they still have tough games left against the Jets and Cowboys.
Vince Young did lead the Eagles to a big win last weekend against the New York Giants, despite throwing 3 interceptions. He finished 23 of 36 for 258 yards and 2 TDs. He was helped considerably by 113 rushing yards from LeSean McCoy and a strong game from DeSean Jackson, who had 6 receptions for 88 yards, and another 54 yards in punt returns.
