The Green Bay Packers reached 9-0 this week, further delaying the inevitable champagne toast that the 1972 Dolphins share each time the last undefeated team gets beaten. They had to go all the way to the Super Bowl a few years ago, as the Patriots came perilously close to equaling the Dolphins feat.
The 1972 Dolphins unofficial, and self-appointed, spokesman Mercury Morris was asked what he thought about the Packers going undefeated, and the answer was a little surprising.
“If they do it, I will toast them,” Morris told FoxSportsFlorida.com.
“I like (the Packers). If they get to 10-0, which they probably will, I’m going to send Aaron Rodgers one of my CDs,” he went on.
“I have nothing but good things to say about the Packers. If they (end up) in our neighborhood, they’re a credit to the sport. They don’t have a bunch of guys out there who view themselves as entertainers.”
