Rookie Jones Shines in Falcons Victory

The Atlanta Falcons improved their record to 5-3 with a 31-7 victory over the still-winless Indianapolis Colts, and rookie Julio Jones joined some elite company with two 50+ yard touchdown receptions.

Jones had touchdown receptions of 50 yards and 80 yards in the first half, and finished the game with 3 catches for 131 yards and 2 TDs, plus two runs for 33 yards.

It’s his third 110-yard-plus yard game in the last four, with only the Green Bay Packers holding him back as he was slowed with a hamstring injury.  Jones is really starting to rack up some big numbers, and has 489 receiving yards so far this season and five touchdowns.

“It gives us another good player, another good option to have the football in his hands,” Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said. “He’s a good player, and we’re certainly better when we have him.”

According to ESPN, Jones is only the third player since 1980 to have a game with two 50-plus-yard TD receptions before the age of 23.  Randy Moss did it against the Cowboys (with 3 50-plus-yarders) in 1998 and Darnay Scott did it in 1994, also against the Cowboys.
