WSU Thumps Montana State 31-0

Pullman, WA- Washington State University opened their season opener by beating Montana State 31-o. Last season WSU had problems with getting in a rhythm and managing the clock in games but against MSU they methodically moved the ball and made it hard for MSU to even score. Washington States’QB Luke Falk was very flawless. He delivered balls on time to his receivers, he utilized his legs when the pocket was collapsing, and he recognized the blitzing schemes that the Bobcats were showing him. “I don’t really like to blitz against Mike Leach,” Choate said. “That’s playing into his hands. If they want to throw a 6-yard crossing route, if they want to dump the ball off to a (running) back, we have to rally and tackle.”

Falk went 33 of 39 for 331 for 3 touchdowns and at one point in the first half, he completed 12 consecutive passes. What opened the game up was the speed of WSU’s wide receivers, but James Williams had a phenomenal game. He recorded a school record 13 catches for 163 yards. Williams could not be stopped in the open field and got into the soft spot of the zone, which WSU took advantage of.

Montana State could not get anything done after getting a fumble back. They looked out of sync and had a couple of penalties that killed any productive drive. The Bobcats’ QB Chris Murray had an awful game. He was 5-12 for 28 yards and threw a pick. The offense just could not figure out WSU’s defense. WSU came out and dominated them on both sides of the ball the entire game.  WSU outgained MSU 511-143 in total yards.

WSU will face Boise State at 7:30 next Saturday.
