The Bengals today signed LB Karlos Dansby, a free agent who led Cleveland with 108 tackles last season and also led the Browns in interceptions (three), with two for touchdowns.

Dansby (6-3, 251; Auburn) started every game for the ’15 Browns and has started all but seven of his teams’ games over the past eight seasons. He is a 13th-year NFL player in 2016, having played for Arizona (2004-09 and 2013), Miami (2010-12) and Cleveland (2014-15). He was twice designated as a franchise player for Arizona and started for the Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII vs. Pittsburgh. He signed a one-year Cincinnati contract, after being released by the Browns on March 16.

He has 41.0 career sacks and 19 INTs, and his six INT returns for touchdowns are tied for the most by a linebacker in NFL history. He also has 18 career forced fumbles, 10 fumble recoveries and six seasons of 100 or more tackles. He has 180 NFL games played, with 161 starts, and has played and started six postseason games.

“Karlos’ numbers speak for themselves,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, “and he is also a great veteran leader. He has the flexibility to play in all situations defensively. Just a very productive, quality guy we are fortunate to add to our team.”

Dansby led Arizona in tackles (eight) and had an INT in his Super Bowl start vs. Pittsburgh. He is the only active NFL player with at least 40 career sacks and 15 INTs in regular season. With one more INT, he will become only the fifth player in NFL history with 40 sacks and 20 INTs.

Last season for Cleveland, in addition to his team-leading tackle and INT totals, Dansby had six total passes defensed and two forced fumbles. His INT returns for TDs covered 35 yards off Denver’s Peyton Manning and 52 yards off Baltimore’s Matt Schaub. He led both sides in tackles (11) in last season’s Browns-Bengals Thursday Night Football meeting at Paul Brown Stadium.
