Before the Miami Dolphins game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, youths from the South Florida community participated in the Punt, Pass and Kick competition. After having more than 40 kids compete, there were nine winners from the various age groups.
Christina Paschal and Cole Sinclair won from the 6-7 girls and boys group, Dakota Moberg and Michael Arnold from the 8-9 girls and boys group, Ryne Tantillo and Paul Boisvert from the 10-11 children’s group, Emilee Moberg and Joshua Lopes from the 12-13 girl and boys group and Coby Mayo from the 14-15 group.
The first selection process began back in August, which was held at Coconut Creek’s Sabal Pines Park and that were the first phase of cuts were made. Kids from Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and even Monroe County. There were three different competitions, a local, a sectional and the best scores from those made competed in the championships.
Once all other NFL teams tabulate their results during the next few weeks, the rosters will be set for the Punt, Pass and Kick National Competition and that will determine who will earn an opportunity to compete in the national spotlight at a wild card game venue in January.
“The kids are just excited to be here,” said Bruno Battel, who is the Parks and Recreation Supervisor for the City of Coconut Creek.
Beginning in 1961, the Punt, Pass and Kick skills competition is the oldest youth program in the NFL. People like Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, and former players Dan Marino and Troy Aikman have competed in the great competition.
