Lions Acquire DT Haloti Ngata via Trade with Baltimore

Allen Park, Mich. – The Detroit Lions announced today that they have acquired DT Haloti Ngata via a trade with the Baltimore Ravens.

A five-time Pro Bowl selection (2009-13) and two-time Associated Press First Team All-Pro selection (2010-11), Ngata joins the Lions defense after spending the previous nine seasons with the Baltimore Ravens (2006-14). Last season, Ngata appeared in 12 games for the Ravens and amassed 32 tackles (19 solo), two sacks (28 yards), seven pass defenses, two forced fumbles and tied his career high for interceptions with two. In Baltimore’s two postseason games, he totaled three tackles (one solo), including a sack in the Ravens’ win over Pittsburgh in the AFC Wild Card Game.

Since 2006, only two defensive tackles have more total tackles than Ngata (Justin Smith, 572; Kyle Williams, 455), who ranks third with 446 during that span (credited with 528 total tackles by Ravens coaching film review). In Ngata’s nine seasons in Baltimore, the Ravens’ run defense ranked second in the NFL in opponent rushing yards per game (92.5) during that span.

A former first-round draft selection by the Ravens (12th overall) in the 2006 NFL Draft out of Oregon, Ngata has started in 133-of-135 games during his nine seasons in Baltimore. His career totals include 446 tackles (284 solo), 25.5 sacks (192 yards), five interceptions, 30 pass defenses, six forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. In 16 career postseason games, Ngata has totaled 48 tackles (32 solo), 3.5 sacks, four pass defenses and one forced fumble.

Ngata’s career honors also include Associated Press Second Team All-Pro (2008-09, 2012), Pro Football Writers of America All-NFL (2009-11) and Sports Illustrated (Peter King) All-Pro (2010-11).
