When Dolphins QB Chad Henne went down with a separated shoulder, the obvious choice – an experience, available QB who was already in Florida – came to mind, they reached out to David Garrard, but a deal never developed.
Garrard, last year’s starter for the 8-8 Jacksonville Jaguars, is still sitting on the sidelines, and ESPN reported earlier this week that the issue was Garrard desire for a guaranteed salary. Now, the Miami Herald is reporting that the issue wasn’t money, and despite the fact that there are multiple versions of the “truth” floating around, the main reason Garrard didn’t sign was that he wasn’t enthusiastic about signing with the 0-4 Dolphins.
Whatever the reason, Garrard is still the most experienced and viable QB sitting on the sidelines this year. He started more games last year than Kerry Collins and the Jags had a better record last year than Collins Titans. Hopefully, he’ll get an opportunity to get back on the field this year at some point.
