Fantasy Football: NFL Week 9 Starts and Sits

As I predicted, as soon as I put Big Ben on the “Sit” list, he was going to go off. Not only did he have a good game, but he had a record breaking type performance with 522 yards and 6 TDs. Now he’ll be on Sunday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens and I for one will be leaving him alone, but there are a few interesting starts and sits I have for week now. And as usual, if you have to make a decision regarding a player that isn’t below, you can just tweet me @pacman453323. So let’s get into the Week 9 Starts and Sits.

Starts: (outside of top 10 players of that position):

QBs

Alex Smith – The Jets are in shambles right now. Everyone that you can start on the Kansas City roster, you want to start this week. Smith should be able to throw for 2 TDs and since he doesn’t turn the ball over too much, he shouldn’t hurt you in any way.

Brian Hoyer – I’m recommending Hoyer this week because this could be it for him. He played horrible last week and the pressure of playing Manziel is growing. He’s got an easy matchup this week and if he doesn’t take advantage of it, I can see Manziel starting from here on out.

RBs

Rays

Ahmad Bradshaw – He’s been on a roll lately and now as he faces his former team, you have to think he’ll have some extra motivation in this game. He has scored 11 or more points in all but 2 games this year and the Giants have given up the 2nd most fantasy points in the league to RBs.

Ronnie Hillman – He is doing this year what Moreno did last year. I said it when the Broncos drafted Montee Ball, he doesn’t fit their system. Moreno, last year, and Hillman, this year, does. Ball needs someone who lines up under center and will give him 20 carries. That’s not this Bronco team.

WRs

Andre Johnson – He hasn’t been bad, but Johnson hasn’t been exactly his usual self this year. He still only has 1 TD, but I think he may find the end zone this week against a Philadelphia team that has given up the 3rd most fantasy points in the league to WRs this year.

Andrew Hawkins – Here is a real good underrated start, and in PPR, he could be a big start. Hawkins has 12 catches for 200 yards and a TD over the span of the last 2 weeks and he had 9 targets each week. The Browns throw a ton and have no other serious threats with Jordan Cameron out.

TEs

Clay Harbor – Speaking of throwing a lot, the Jaguars are always behind, it seems. Harbor has done a good solid job stepping in for injured starter Mercedes Lewis. He has done so well, that they are considering using more 2 TE sets when Lewis comes back.

Sits:

QBs

Rays2

Philip Rivers – I’ve long said that Rivers is a better fantasy QB than a real life QB. He has played great so far this year, but he has thrown 3 INTs in the last 2 weeks, 2 total INTs before that, and the Chargers have lost 2 in a row. I think this will be the 3rd in a row in Miami, a team that does well against QBs.

Austin Davis – As everyone that reads my articles knows, I’m a fan of Austin Davis, but he’s in the middle of a dreadful schedule. To face SF, Sea, KC, SF, and then Ari all in a row is too tall of a task for the talented Davis. You just have to hope they don’t decide to turn back to Shaun Hill.

RBs

Jerick McKinnon – Last week was another good effort for McKinnon and he has established himself as the clear #1 RB on the Vikings depth chart. However, he faces a Redskin’s defense that despite what Demarco Murray did last week, still gives up the 3rd few fantasy points to RBs in the entire league.

Chris Ivory – The same reason why I said start all Chiefs is why I am saying to bench all Jets. Now don’t get me wrong, I think they will score, but who knows who it will be. They are just a bad and frustrated team right now. That usually isn’t a good situation for fantasy players.

WRs

Rueben Randle – The Colts are good on the outside with covering WRs, but bad in the middle with covering TEs. I think the Giants will try to feature Donnell a lot this week to exploit that. If you have to start him, just hope for a cheap garbage time TD.

Allen Robinson – Since Cecil Shorts has been in and out of the lineup, Robinson has been by far their most consistent WR. He has also been on the field a lot more than Allen Hurns and Marqise Lee. The problem is the Bengals are good defensively and even better at home.

TEs

Heath Miller – The huge day that Miller had last week was a byproduct of the ridiculous day that Big Ben had. Since I don’t think he will repeat that against a division rival, I have a hard time thinking Miller will even do half of the 112 yards and 1 TD that he did last week.

Those are your Week 9 Starts and Sits in the NFL. Enjoy the games.
