Every week, fantasy football players have decisions to make. Should I start a backup that is starting? Should I bench my struggling star? Should I start my average player against a bad defense? Should I start my good player against a top 3 defense? Well, every week, I’ll be trying to help you make these decisions in this weekly starts and sits article. Also, if you have a decision with a player that isn’t covered in this article, you can tweet me @pacman453323. So without further ado, let’s get right into the week 2 starts and sits.
Starts: (outside of top 10 players of that position):
QBs
Robert Griffin III – Everyone is really down on RG3 right now, but the offense dictated him to throw check downs and he was going against an extremely underrated defense in my opinion. He should have an easier go at it this week against Jacksonville. He should have time to get it down the field.
Jake Locker – The Cowboys defense is bad. This is something that most of us knew going into the year. It was combined with some of the inexplicable interceptions thrown from their offense. Locker has some good weapons and as long as he is healthy, the Titans will be able to put up some points.
RBs
Andre Ellington – Reports of him being out 4-6 weeks caused many owners, including myself to bench Ellington for game one. We, and the reports, were wrong. Even though Ellington was clearly not 100%, he was still able to rack up 80 yards with limited practice time. He’ll be better this week.
Toby Gerhart – It’s pretty weird that Jacksonville didn’t run the ball more with a 17-0 lead last week. They seemed to get too pass happy and it backfired. This week, I think they get back to basics against a Redskins defense that doesn’t exactly scare the life out of you.
WRs
Michael Floyd – Sorry Larry Fitzgerald fans, but like it or not, Fitz will not be your #1 WR this year. That spot will be, and apparently has already been, filled by 3rd year WR Michael Floyd. If you look at Floyd’s ability, he may be just a younger version of Fitzgerald, so all is good with the heavy pass offense in Zona.
Kendall Wright – As I mentioned earlier with Locker, the Cowboys defense is bad and the Titans, with a healthy Locker, can move the ball. Wright had 6 catches for 46 yards and a TD against a defense that is considered top 5 in the league. Imagine what he can do against a defense considered in the worst 5.
TEs
Zach Ertz – It seems as though the torch is being passed from Brent Celek to Zack Ertz. Last week his 77 yards and a TD, while playing 60% of the snaps confirmed that. In the type of an offense that Philly runs, he could be in for a big time year and approach 800-900 yards.
Sits:
QBs
Philip Rivers – A common theme that will be echoed in almost every one of my start and sit articles will be “Bench players going against Seattle”. If you tried to test that last week, with all world QB Aaron Rodgers, you probably lost and now know why I am saying that.
Eli Manning – The offense being ran for the NY Giants just doesn’t seem right. It didn’t look right in the preseason, and it didn’t look any better on Monday Night. Just doesn’t seem like the personnel matches up. Not only does Eli not fit the system, but they also need better line play, and a heavy receiving RB.
RBs
Chris Johnson – This sit has to do with me expecting Green Bay to go off next week, being up a lot, so the Jets being forced to pass. Johnson had a good week last week, I just think his touches will be limited if the Packers go up 14 points or more. Plus, he’s not exactly Darren Sproles out the backfield.
Steven Jackson – It wasn’t exactly a bad game from S-Jax last week, he did average 4.3 yards per carry, but the Falcons are obviously going to a heavy passing offense and letting Matt Ryan throw as much as he wants to. Jackson isn’t the pass catching RB for this team, so it’s not a good fit.
WRs
Eric Decker – You had to expect the floor to fall out from under Eric Decker going from the high flying Broncos offense to the Jets. He may get a late, garbage time, touchdown to help you this week, but Sam Shield is a good fast CB and he will likely be shadowing Decker all day.
Marques Colston – Last week was a great game for Colston with 5 catches and 110 yards, but it was against a Falcon’s defense that I don’t consider being that good. This week he goes against top 5 CB Joe Haden and even though he struggled last week, I expect him to comeback with authority this week.
TEs
Antonio Gates – Arizona is 1 of the worst teams in the league against the TE, that’s my explanation for the good game for Gates last week. This week, it’s Seattle and I cannot see him betting to 50 yards or a TD. Gates will be better than most people expect this year, but don’t count on it this week.
Those are your starts and sits for week 2 in the NFL, enjoy the games.
