NFC East Notebook: “But That’s None Of My Business…”

It is officially one of the more quiet times on the NFL calendar as the “path to training camp”  is upon us. So in this week’s edition of “NFC East Notebook,” pardon us as we partake in the online sensation of — “But that’s none of my business.” If you are an active social network user you know that Kermit the Frog has made the ultimate comeback with his [Muppets] Lipton Tea commercial. So, before the fad dies we’re going to take a look at 10 NFC East related storylines that probably shouldn’t be any of our business.

1. Tony Romo receives more freedom in the Dallas Cowboys’ offense every year in hopes that it could push him to the next level. Yet, he’s 34 and his team hasn’t had a winning season since 2009… But that’s none of my business…

2. New York Giants CB Walter Thurmond III:  “I’m learning a little more stuff than we did in Seattle. We were very simple,” said Thurmond. “Here, we’re mixing coverages and having exotic defenses. I like it, because it gives me a lot more freedom.”

… Was that simplicity in Seattle what propelled you to having success as a nickel DB, Walter?

But that’s none of my business…

3. NFC Rookies took a short trip to the Hall Of Fame this week as part of the NFL Symposium. I wonder how the Philadelphia Eagles’ rookies felt when their NFC East foes glanced at the 11 total Super Bowl rings in the division — none of which belong to Philly. But that’s none of my business…

4. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he won’t attend Washington Redskins games until they change their name. He considers the term derogatory and says he’d change it if he was the team’s owner. Is this not the same guy who described President Obama as a “light skinned” African-American with “no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one?” But that’s none of my business…

5. Redskins’ Defensive Coordinator Jim Haslett has not coached a top 15 defense since 2005 — and even then, that was a 4-3 scheme. Haslett hasn’t consistently coached a top 15 defense since the late ‘90s with the Steelers. Even then, one could argue he messed up what Dick LeBeau already built in Pittsburgh. Yet, the Redskins believe better days are ahead of him. But that’s none of my business…

but that's none of my6. The Eagles released DeSean Jackson after having a career season in Chip Kelly’s offense. His ability to consistently stretch the field and improvise on broken plays helped Philly win the NFC East. Yet, they cut him staking their faith on a WR group that doesn’t include a consistent threat. Plus they allowed him to go to a division rival. But that’s none of my business…

7. The Cowboys released DeMarcus Ware this off-season and allowed Jason Hatcher to sign with the Redskins mostly because they couldn’t afford them. They also rewarded their QB Tony Romo with a $108 million contract. This is the same QB that’s led his team to three consecutive 8-8 seasons. Now, Dallas’ defense has no talent and a QB who chokes in big games. Plus they weren’t able to create the match made in heaven by drafting Johnny Manziel. But that’s none of my business…

8.  The tight end position has been a friend of Eli Manning’s for years. Yet, the Giants allowed a solid one in Martellus Bennett go last season hoping Brandon Myers could replace him. That didn’t work. Now they’re left with five tight ends: Daniel Fells, Xavier Grimble, Larry Donnell, Adrien Robinson and Kellen Davis… Kermit!

9. The Redskins continue to boast a “rich 80-year tradition” as a reason they shouldn’t change the team’s name. Doesn’t that 80-year tradition include a racist owner who didn’t want African American players on his team? But that’s none of my business…

10. Five of the Cowboys’ eight wins came via the NFC East last season… That was the best in-division record… But that’s none of my business…
