The Bengals today re-signed TE Alex Smith, who had become an unrestricted free agent when his 2013 Cincinnati contract expired.
Smith (6-4, 250; Stanford) is a 10th-year NFL player in 2014, in his second season with Cincinnati. He joined the Bengals as an unrestricted free agent from Cleveland for 2013 and played in every regular season game, with two starts. He caught 13 passes, for 47 yards. He missed the Wild Card playoff vs. San Diego, due to a wrist dislocation suffered in the regular season finale vs. Baltimore. He has completed rehab from that injury.
“Alex played significant snaps for us last year, and it’s good to get him back in the fold,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. “He’s ready to go physically, and it’s mini-camp week, so he jumps right back in there for us.”
Smith has 119 NFL games played, with 57 starts. He has 160 receptions for 1461 yards and 12 TDs.
