The Impact Jackson Will Have on RGIII and Redskins

The NFL season is quickly approaching.  Teams are already involved in their organized team activities (OTA)’s and getting ready for the start of the 2014-2015 season.  The Washington Redskins have added plenty of pieces in the offseason to both their offense and defense, but none as big as DeSean Jackson.  What can Jackson bring from the division rival Philadelphia Eagles to help Robert Griffin III (RG3) and the Redskins be successful?

The addition of Jackson can only be a plus for the Redskins offense.  They already had a talented receiver in Pierre Garcon and added Andre Roberts through free agency.  Garcon has been a #1 caliber WR since his days in Indianapolis and now has some help on the outside.  It’s easy to say the Redskins do not have a clear-cut #1 WR and that is great for RG3

RG3, who’s now 100% healthy, can sit back behind his upgraded offensive line and use his plethora of weapons.  Garcon, Roberts, Jordan Reed, Alfred Morris and Lache Seastrunk should all benefit from Jackson being on the team.  Jackson brings his explosiveness and big play ability to a team that was once feared, because of their QB (when healthy) and rushing attack.

RG3′s ability to extend plays and Jackson’s ability to get behind defenses should make for an exciting first season together.  Jackson can only create more opportunities for guys to get open underneath.  Garcon, Roberts and Reed all have the ability to break off chunks of yardage after the catch.  I expect to see big numbers put up in the passing game this season.

With so much attention being placed on the passing attack, Morris should have a great season at RB.  Even before a legit receiving corps, Morris was very effective running the ball.  Yes, his 1600 rushing yards in his rookie season were under former coach Mike Shanahan, but he has the talent to put up similar numbers this season with the focus on Jackson and RG3.  Rookie back Seastrunk should be a solid backup as well.

As the season gets closer and the Redskins start to gain some chemistry with RG3 being apart of the offseason activities, plan on seeing a scary offense being placed on the field.  Defensive coordinators will fear game-planning for the Redskins and we shall see that translated on the field.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see RG3, Jackson, Garcon and Roberts have a similar year to the 2004-2005 Colts under Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne and Brandon Stokely.
