Jerry Jones: Playoff expansion will help out his team

Jerry-Jones1In a recent interview Dallas Cowboy’s owner Jerry Jones had made quite some remarks about the idea of playoff expansion. “I am pleased that we’re looking at expanding the playoffs,” Jones said on the NFL Network. “I think what a playoff means to a team and to a city is unquestioned. Now, from the Cowboys standpoint, maybe it will give us a better chance to be in the playoffs, so I’m an easy vote on this one. “Seriously, I think it really enhances what we’re always trying to do, and that’s fan interest. Any time, at such a critical time for teams to be able to show their fans that they’re doing the kinds of things that maybe gives you a chance for a Super Bowl, that’s going in the right direction.”

“From the standpoint of looking at how exciting it is for a city or a community to be involved in the playoffs and the fact that you can have a team that might have literally operated at .500 or in that area . . . you can have that team win the Super Bowl,” Jones said. “That makes a big case for adding a couple of more cities or communities that have NFL teams to the playoffs. It just creates that much more excitement and that much more interest for people in those communities. So I fall on the side of the ledger that would increase the playoffs.”

This statement seems priceless, not to mention the fact that the Cowboys haven’t been to the playoffs since 2009 and is attempting to rebuild their image. Before the Cowboys even think about post season they need to fix their defensive front, with injuries hurting their key players they had one of the worst defensive as a team in the league.

Jones remains optimistic about the future of the franchise and explained why adding additional games could be more exciting for fans and apparent for his team: “I can’t help but make the case for the Cowboys on this issue,” Jones said. “There’s no doubt that we have less percentage playoff teams than most sports do, and when you go through the competitiveness that we have and how close our teams really are competitively then you can make a real good case for more of them qualifying for the playoffs.”Jerry-ntq7uk

The playoff expansions looks to be a promising fit, but there have been some concerns and criticism from players and the NFLPA. The players will consider playoff expansion only if the various workers compensation issues are addressed.
