LAKE FOREST, IL – The Chicago Bears agreed to terms with WR Brandon Marshall on a three-year contract extension. Marshall’s contract now runs through the 2017 season.
Since joining the Bears in 2012 via trade with the Miami Dolphins, Marshall has reset the standard for the Bears wide receiver position. In two seasons with the club, Marshall has been named to the Pro Bowl both years, ranking second in the NFL during that time in receptions (218), fourth in receiving yards (2,803), fifth in touchdown receptions (23) and tied for second in 100-yard receiving games (13). His 118 receptions in 2012 and 100 receptions in 2013 rank first and second, respectively, in franchise single-season annals. His 1,508 receiving yards in 2012 and 1,295 receiving yards in 2013 are first and fifth, respectively, in the Bears single-season record book. He is the only player in franchise history with multiple 100-reception seasons and the only one with back-to-back seasons with double-digit touchdown receptions. He is one of just three players in franchise history with 1,000-yard receiving yards in back-to-back seasons, joining Curtis Conway (1995-96) and Marty Booker (2001-02).
The five-time Pro Bowler (2008-09, 11-13 seasons) entered the NFL in 2006 as a fourth-round selection (119th overall) of the Denver Broncos from the University of Central Florida. Since joining the League, Marshall is third in the league in receptions (712), fifth in receiving yards (9,050),tied for sixth in touchdown receptions (57) and fourth in 100-yard receiving games (32). He is the only player in the NFL to register 1,000-yards receiving in each of the last seven seasons (2007-13) and the only player in the League with 80 receptions over each of the last seven years. Marshall is tied for the NFL record with five 100-catch seasons (2007-09 and 2012-13) and is the first player in League history with 100-reception seasons with two different teams (Denver and Chicago).
Marshall along with his wife, Michi, has created the Brandon Marshall Foundation, whose mission is “to end the stigma attached to mental illness, advocate for unprecedented awareness, connect those suffering to resources, and paint the world lime green.”
