The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have signed RB Carlos Hyde and CB Dontae Johnson to a four-year deals.
Hyde (6-0, 235) was selected in the second round (57th overall) by the 49ers in this year’s draft out of Ohio State University. In 41 games (20 starts) over four seasons with the Buckeyes, he tallied 3,198 rushing yards (6.1 average) and 37 touchdowns on 523 carries. He also added 34 receptions for 271 yards and four touchdowns. Hyde’s 3,198 career rushing yards rank sixth in school history and his 37 rushing touchdowns rank fourth. As a senior, Hyde was named the Big Ten Conference’s Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year and was named Second-Team All-America and First-Team All-Big Ten. He appeared in 11 games (nine starts) and rushed for 1,527 yards (7.3 average) and 15 touchdowns on 208 carries, also hauling in 16 receptions for 147 yards and three touchdowns. He closed out his collegiate career with nine consecutive 100-yard rushing games.
A 22-year old native of Naples, FL, Hyde attended Naples High School.
Johnson (6-2, 200) was the second of two, fourth-round draft picks (129th overall) by the 49ers in this year’s draft out of North Carolina State University. In 50 games (28 starts) over four seasons with the Wolfpack, he finished with 217 tackles, 10 passes defensed, four sacks, three interceptions and two forced fumbles. As a senior in 2013, he started all 12 games and registered 82 tackles, a team-high three interceptions, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.
A 22-year old native of Pennington, NJ, Johnson attended Pennington Prep High School.
