Sometimes in football, like in life, things come full circle in an unexpected way. For TE Reggie Kelly that was certainly the case when the Atlanta Falcons called him this summer after he was released by the Cincinnati Bengals.
Reggie was originally drafted by the Falcons in the 1999 NFL Draft and played with them for four years before moving to the Bengals. Reggie says, “he was very surprised to be back playing with the Falcons” but he and his family have now made Atlanta their home.
So while all the names and faces of his previous Atlanta team have changed it’s still a familiar place to play. Another familiarity for Reggie is Eagles QB Michael Vick. Vick and Reggie played together when both were on the Falcons in 2001 and 2002. Maybe some of that insight is something the Falcons will be able to capitalize on when they host the Eagles for this Sunday’s primetime match-up.
“Mike is a tough player to slot for his game play and he also has a lot of weapons in his arsenal. We will have to do whatever we can to contain him.”
No doubt it will be a tough game but one that the Falcons are preparing to win. Reggie says while it was disappointing to lose to the Bears the team has been working hard this week to prepare for and win against the Eagles in their home opener.
“The Falcons are a winning organization and only lost three games last year and even beat Green Bay.”
Reggie is an impressive player known for his blocking abilities as well as his support of his other teammates on and off the field. He wants to be an asset to the Falcons in both blocking and receiving and is looking forward to game time Sunday night.
