The Bengals today signed free agent CB R.J. Stanford.
Stanford (5-10, 190; Utah) is a fourth-year NFL player in 2014. He played in the first 13 games last season for the Miami Dolphins, ranking tied for sixth on the special teams with five tackles, and missed the last three games due to an ankle injury suffered Dec. 8 at Pittsburgh. He played in every game for Miami in 2012, with 15 tackles on defense and six on special teams.
He entered the NFL in 2010 as a seventh-round draft choice of Carolina and went to Miami via waivers for 2012. He has 41 career NFL games played, with 27 tackles on defense, 12 tackles on special teams and one interception (53-yard return).
Stanford’s Miami contract expired after the 2013 season, and he became a free agent when the signing period began on March 11 with the Dolphins not having made him a restricted free agent tender offer.
