Tampa Bay’s QB Mike Glennon will have his work cut out for him in the offseason; Tampa Bay’s head coach Lovie Smith was acquired to the Bucs organization this year and wants to make the necessary changes to get the Bucs heading into the right direction. He hasn’t been sold on Glennon just yet. “To say right now that Mike is the answer and he’s our quarterback of the future and we’re going to build around him and give him a 20-year contract, we’re not there,” Smith said recently, via The Tampa Tribune. “I like him as one of our quarterbacks right now, but we’re going to have at least four in camp and at least one (veteran) will be in the mix. And then you just let it all play out.”
Glennon had took over the starting position in late September, because Josh Freeman was not productive and was careless with the ball. Glennon had took over and at times showed that he can be an effective QB in the NFL. His touchdown and interception ratio was 19/9 which supported the evidence that he does not turn the ball over. He is very accurate with hitting open receivers and identifying the coverage down the field.
Last year was his rookie debut, this year the coaches expect more out of Glennon with a new system that will be installed. “You have to have a plan. But if you ask me do I think we can win games with Mike Glennon? I’m going to say, “yeah, we can win games with Mike Glennon.’ If you ask me would you like to upgrade the position? I’m not running around the question. That’s a yes, too. If you ask me, would you like a veteran? Yeah. Really, that’s the case. It all has to go together. You have to look at what’s available at other positions, too says Lovie.”
Smith added that he was looking for a seventh round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. I know enough about that draft to know, yeah, there’s someone that would be worthy of the seventh pick because everything is on the board right now,” Smith said, via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “Whenever you have a chance to get a franchise quarterback, you have to consider that.”
