Will Rackley has been selected by his teammates as the 2013 Ed Block Courage Award winner. The award is presented each year to one member of every NFL team, recognizing the players’ courage and dedication in returning from injury or illness.
“Rackley exemplifies courage and honor,” Jaguars head athletic trainer/physical therapist Mike Ryan said. “His outstanding dedication and sportsmanship to his team and local community has provided him the prestigious honor as the Ed Block Courage Award Recipient.”
Rackley is also considered an inspiration to his teammates and the Jacksonville community, dedicating time and services off the football field to many organizations. He is the ambassador for Dignity-U-Wear, strongly supports the Cathedral Arts Foundation and spends countless hours at the Sulzbacker Center as well as local schools and hospitals.
Rackley suffered a significant football injury early in training camp 2012 enduring a high ankle sprain, and upon return he re-injured the ankle. Through much deliberation it was in his best interest to seek surgical intervention. He had his ankle surgically repaired and was placed on season-ending injured reserve for the 2012 season.
Rackley remained positive and diligent throughout his rehabilitation. He was able to make an outstanding recovery and has returned to full health for the 2013 Jaguars season, starting the first eight games at left guard.
