Nick Foles will be starting Sunday against the Oakland Raiders; Foles had sustained concussion like symptoms that had kept him out of last week’s game. Coach Chip Kelly announced Wednesday that Foles will take all the reps with the first-team offense in practice this week. Rookie Matt Barkley will be the backup and Michael Vick is not expected to play against the Raiders. Even though Kelly had announced that Foles will be the starter, there were numerous questions about the health of each of his quarterbacks.
“Let me ask you a serious question,” Kelly said. “How many times are you going to ask me that same question? And in how many ways are you going to go about it. … The ideal world, Mike’s the healthiest in the world, Nick’s the healthiest in the world, Matt’s the healthiest in the world. At that point in time, we’ll have that conversation.”
Foles had looked sharp in practice and coach Chip Kelly had noticed; “Nick did really well,” Kelly said. “I know he was cleared, but just because he was cleared, we [still] really needed to see him. I hadn’t really had a chance to visit with him, so to get to watch him on the field, I was really happy with the way Nick practiced.”
There have ben speculations around the league that states the Eagles are now looking into the 2014 season and have not been worried about the outcome of this season, but Kelly had put that rumor to rest.”We’re all about winning games,” Kelly said. “It’s about beating Oakland this week. That’s it. To think any other way would be a disservice to the other players on this team and a disservice to our fans.”If we start thinking long-term, then I may not be here long-term.”
